ISABEL PANTOJA – LA REINA DE LA COPLA

“Nací en Sevilla, Sevilla
Entre claveles rojos y manzanilla
Nací en Sevilla, Sevilla
Entre paredes blancas y bulerías”

Finally the last diva of the Spanish Folcloric, the Queen of the Coplas, Isabel Pantoja from Sevilla, came to Barcelona to give a long longed for performance at the Coliseum!

La Pantoja is one of the last cult icons of the era, still alive and performing, and yesterday night the theatre was packed with older Spanish señoras in full make over with their hair fixed up with at least one can of hairspray, and of course, the obligatory “abanico” at hand! The rest of the audience was handsome gay men, and us, who wanted to see and listen to the mythic Española whom have lead a life full of flare, tragedies and pain, and of course, blood red amor…

She was once married to the famous bullfighter, Paquirri, who died a violent death during a bull fight in the arena…

In the line of ladies from the audience the local Spanish television, and us, caught this devoted fan who came prepared with red roses for the Diva!

The stage covered with flowers, a team of flamenco dancers to accompany the star, and the diva herself in full action singing out her pain in the coplas while the fans were screaming GUAPA, GUAPAAAAAAA, made the show complete!

Pantoja proved herself to have an incredible voice yesterday, and the way she moves over the stage with her southern grace is a delight to watch! But the sound was not the best, and personally I only really liked three of the songs and missed a lot of my personal favorites…like this one! VENENO!
